Even this late in the year, there is ample time for budding stars to start making a name for themselves—and if Dame Dorothy can extended her unbeaten streak to five in the $400,000 Comely Stakes (gr. III) at Aqueduct Racetrack, she will take her place among the leading 3-year-old fillies of 2014.
Following a gap of over six months between her brilliant 12-length allowance/optional claiming score at Gulfstream Park and her return victory in a stakes against Pennsylvania-breds, the daughter of Bernardini captured the Oct. 26 Turnback the Alarm Stakes (gr. III). She now looks to stretch out to 1 1/8 miles and continue her winning ways.
Owned by Bobby Flay and trained by Todd Pletcher, Dame Dorothy, a $390,000 Keeneland September yearling sale purchase, will break from post 4 under Javier Castellano in the field of nine.
If you like Dame Dorothy, you also have to like the Chad Brown-trained Catch My Drift, who was beaten only a half-length in the Turnback the Alarm and was gaining on the winner in the final furlong.
The daughter of Pioneerof the Nile had won three of her first four career starts, with her only defeat a seventh-place finish in the Alabama Stakes (gr. I), beaten five lengths.
Owned by Hidden Brook Farm, Catch My Drift will be ridden by John Velasquez from post 7.
Mike Hushion sends out Barry Schwartz's New York-bred Princess Violet, impressive winner of her last two starts including the Empire Distaff Handicap for state-breds. But the daughter of Officer is well proven in top-class company, having finished second to Untapable in the grade I Acorn Stakes.
It looks as if Jimmy Jerkens has House Rules, formerly trained by his father Allen, back in early season form, with the daughter of Distorted Humor coming off a six-length victory in an off-the-turf allowance/optional claiming race in the slop. Earlier in the year, she registered second-place finishes in the Davona Dale Stakes (gr. II) and Gulfstream Park Oaks (gr. II).
Among the remaining starters are Shayjolie, coming off a fast-closing second in the Safely Kept Stakes at Laurel Park; Penwith, coming off a third in the Indiana Oaks (gr. II); and Flipcup, who has never finished out of the money in 11 starts, most of them against New York-breds.
Godolphin will send out an entry of Snowbell, trained by Tom Albertrani, and Divided Attention, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin.
