America’s Best Racing and DerbyJackpot team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend in a regular feature blog that will run on Fridays.
Each week, one of our crack handicappers - Jose Contreras, Dan Tordjman, Victoria Garofalo or Cory Moelis – will provide at least one “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a win bet.
The post also will include some combination of additional bets for the weekend.
For some posts, our handicappers will try to identify a longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet.
Our handicappers also will look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or occasionally try to spot a nice opportunity to bet a trifecta or superfecta.
Place your bets at DerbyJackpot. It's the easiest and most fun online horse betting site out there. Races open for betting about five minutes before post time. Place your bets and you can walk away with some extra cash in your pocket.

Best Bet (Win Bet/Monkey Bet)
Aqueduct 4, Comely Stakes (G3), 1:24 p.m. ET
#3 Dame Dorothy: A Bernardini filly owned by Bobby Flay, Dame Dorothy has looked spectacular since returning to the races after six months away. She has remained unbeaten, improving to a perfect 4 for 4 and scoring her first graded stakes win in her most recent start despite stumbling at the start. She’s lightly raced, can sit off a pace and is the only horse in this race with three wins going longer than a mile. Distance isn’t a question and, to add to our confidence, she’s also won on this track, breaking her maiden at Aqueduct a year ago this weekend.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Aqueduct Race 10, Cigar Mile Handicap (G1), 4:17 p.m. ET
#1 Private Zone: One of three horses exiting the Breeders’ Cup Sprint for the Cigar Mile, Private Zone prefers being on or near the lead, which didn’t happen in the Sprint last out. He should find the pace scenario much more to his liking here, with the rail and not much gate speed drawn outside of him. He’s always pretty game and put up a huge number in this race last year, when he finished second.
#6 Secret Circle: The 2014 Breeders' Cup Sprint runner-up (he won the race in 2013) has yet to finish out of the money in 12 career starts, having only finished worse than second in one race. He’s only gone a mile twice, but Secret Circle figures to be close enough to the pace to at least challenge late. I still think Private Zone probably gets a loose enough lead most of the way around, which will make it tough to pass him.
#7 Big Business: This horse will very likely be overlooked because he’s seen a lot of inferior state-bred company in his career, but don’t overlook the big race he ran three starts back when second in the Grade 1 Forego Stakes at Saratoga. He came on strongly late to grab the place money at odds of 20.80-1. Not only is he 4 for 5 at Aqueduct, he also seems better suited to get this mile distance than some of the others in this race. If the pace happens to heat up early, look for Big Business late.

Best Bet (Win Bet/Monkey Bet)
Del Mar, Race 6, Cecil B. DeMille Stakes (G3), 6 p.m. ET
#6 Daddy D T: Not only did this son of Scat Daddy finish third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, he also comes out of the FrontRunner Stakes that featured phenom American Pharoah and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Texas Red. In each of those last two races, he can also claim trip trouble as an excuse. Daddy D T should run into a nice little pace setup and pick them off late.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Del Mar, Race 7, 6:30 p.m. ET
#2 Ferocious: This horse comes out of a Grade 3 race and drops back into the optional claiming ranks, within which he won with ease two races back. He tries this surface for the first time and must avoid getting caught in a speed duel. Other than that, he seems to fit here and could score at a nice price.
#5 Syndicated: A 4-year-old gelding by Midnight Lute, Syndicated ran a very strong race at this level in the summer at Del Mar. He was moving well late in that one after having some trouble earlier in the race. Syndicated is 4-for-4 at the distance, seems to like this course and moves up the list of potential win contenders if the pace up front gets hot.
#6 Rolling Fog: This Bob Baffert-trained colt makes his first start in more than two years. When last seen, he won the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity in 2012. Baffert has great numbers off of an extended break, and this horse figures to be a short price. Keep an eye on the board though, and if he isn't taking any action that could be a sign. I wouldn’t make a win bet on this hors, but you have to use him in exotics.
#7 My Slew: This horse should be forwardly placed and is another one who will have to avoid mixing it up early if he’s going to last. I like the looks of his two races at Del Mar over the summer. He’s got two wins on Del Mar’s synthetic Polytrack surface and has won half of his eight races at this distance, placing in three others. Not impossible at a bit of a price.
