The first reported foal by 2017 Horse of the Year Gun Runner arrived Jan. 17 at Teruya Yoshida's Shadai Farm in Japan.
"The filly is a beautiful and well-balanced foal. She looks just like her father," Yoshida said of the first foal out of multiple grade 1 winner Giuliet Seattle. The mare, by Seattle Fitz (ARG), won three of her four starts and was second once, getting her biggest victories in the Mil Guineas (G1) at San Isidro and Jorge de Atucha (G1) at Hipdromo Argentino de Palermo (G1). Her runner-up effort also came in grade 1 company, the Estrellas Juvenile Fillies (G1).
“We look forward to more of Gun Runner’s foals arriving in the coming weeks off the exceptional book of mares he covered during his first year at stud,” said Tom Hamm, Three Chimneys Farm’s director of stallion seasons.
Gun Runner, a six-time grade 1 winner by prominent sire Candy Ride , raced from 2 to 5 and compiled a 12-3-2 record out of 19 starts and banked $15,988,500. The striking chestnut was a fixture in the most prestigious races, with 15 wins or places in graded stakes across the United Stakes and in Dubai.
Gun Runner put a $7 million exclamation mark on his already impressive career by capturing the 2018 Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) before being retired to stud at Three Chimneys near Midway, Ky. The stallion stands for a 2019 fee of $70,000.
