Maragh, Montalvo Injured in Gulfstream Spill

Description:

Jockeys Romero Maragh and Carlos Montalvo were injured in a spill during the running of the first race Jan. 31 at Gulfstream Park.

Maragh, whose mount Classic Act fell to the turf after clipping heels, was transported to Aventura Hospital, where it was determined he has two broken vertebrae. The leading apprentice jockey has full movement of his extremities.

Montalvo, who was unseated when his mount Prospective Moment jumped over the fallen Classic Act, sustained a hairline fracture in his right ankle.

Neither horse suffered serious injuries, according to Gulfstream on-track host Jason Blewitt.
