Washington Sire Pontiff Gets First Foal in Kentucky

The first reported foal by Pontiff, out of the Midnight Lute mare Midnight Hope

The first reported foal by Warlock Stables' first-crop sire Pontiff arrived Jan. 30 at Postmaster Farm near Lexington.

The filly is the first foal out of the Midnight Lute  daughter Midnight Hope, who is a full sister to grade 1-placed, black-type winner Kelly's Humor. The is dam is co-owned by Tim Floyd, Helen Myrick, Samantha Hansen, and Roddina Barrett. Floyd also owns Pontiff.

Midnight Hope will be bred back this year to California Chrome .

Pontiff is a winning son of Giant's Causeway bred by Claiborne Farm out of the Mr. Prospector daughter Preach, making him a a half brother to Pulpit (by A.P. Indy) and grade 3-placed winner Urban Poet (by Dynaformer). Pontiff was initially campaigned by Donegal Racing and then later by Edward McAlvain. Racing from 3 to 7, he compiled a 3-10-7 record from 35 starts.

Pontiff stands at Roche Farm near Yakima, Wash., for a $2,500 fee.
