When the first Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool of the 2015 Kentucky Derby season closed on Sunday it was no surprise to see the Mutuel field as the 3/5 favorite, but the individual horse odds came with a small surprise.
Dortmund, who has won both his starts including an allowance race at Churchill Downs on Nov. 29 by 7 ¾ lengths closed as the 9-1 individual favorite, down from the 50-1 morning line odds listed when the pool opened. The Bob Baffert-trainee was followed by American Pharoah, a front runner for champion 2-year-old honors, who closed at 12-1 and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Texas Red at 14-1.
In total, bettors had 24 choices in the first Future Wager Pool with Santa Anita maiden winner Unblunted as the longest shot on the board at odds of 185-1.
