Campo Named General Manager of Gulfstream

P.J. Campo, vice president of racing for The Stronach Group and Gulfstream Park, will assume the duties of general manager at the Hallandale Beach, Fla. track, effective immediately.

 

Since joining Gulfstream a year ago, Campo has helped establish a successful summer racing program at Gulfstream Park West (formerly known as Calder Race Course) as well as growing field size at Gulfstream Park, according to the company.

 

Gulfstream said Campo has also worked closely with track president Tim Ritvo, who is chief operating officer of parent company The Stronach Group. Besides developing a year-round stakes program, growing the Florida Sire Stakes, and making changes to Gulfstream Park, Campo has also been involved in the development of Gulfstream Park West and with improving guest accommodations and customer relations at both the Casino at Gulfstream Park and The Village at Gulfstream Park.

 

"I am very proud of the work P.J. has done," Ritvo said. "He worked tirelessly in helping to prepare Gulfstream Park West for our Fall Turf Festival and the racing department continues to improve field size, clearly evident by the 142 horses entered for our opening day program Saturday. P.J. is a valuable member of our team and well deserving of this extra responsibility."  Ritvo's responsibilities as COO will be taking him back and forth between the company's tracks in Florida and Maryland.

 

Before Campo came on board as Gulfstream's vice president of racing, he served as vice president and director of racing for the New York Racing Association.

 

Gulfstream Park's meet starts Dec. 6 with a 10-race card that includes the eight races comprising the $1 million Claiming Crown. The 2014-15 meet is highlighted by the $1 million Florida Derby (gr. I) on March 28.
