Jockey Daniel Vergara reached the 1,000th-win milestone Dec. 6 at Turf Paradise when Listen You Fool captured the day's first race .
Aboard Listen You Fool for the first time, Vergara had him ideally positioned in fourth through a quarter mile in the one-mile test for $6,250 claimers, and angled out the 4-year-old Top Hit gelding for a clear run entering the stretch. Under Vergara's urging, Listen You Fool was up in time for a neck victory, halting a 20-race winless streak.
Listen You Fool campaigns for Veronica Gallegos-Barraza and Ramiro Barraza-Sosa, who also is the trainer.
A native of Mexico who resides in Phoenix, Vergara scored his first career win on Caris Magic at Hipodromo de las Americas on Feb. 2, 1990.
Vergara's record also includes 42 stakes victories. In addition to the milestone win, he has 1,031 seconds and 1,022 thirds from 6,834 mounts who have amassed purse earnings of $9,989,688 as of Dec. 6.
