It is the time of year for dreaming of warm, sunny horse races … and holiday cheer! We may be in our slower time at Fashion at the Races, but one thing that builds our fashion excitement before our 2015 Kentucky Derby campaign is the release of our 2015 Fashion at the Races Calendar.
Like last year, for the 2015 calendar we have teamed up with the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance to support retired racehorses. We were able to donate $1,000 to support our favorite athletes off the track as a result of our 2014 calendar sales. The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Foundation Inc. (TAA) is a non-profit organization that exists to ensure industry-wide funding for accredited organizations that care for retired Thoroughbreds. TAA has accredited 23 aftercare facilities to date and has the support from stallion farms, which has grown from 12 in 2012 to 21 as of May 2014.
The TAA is helping to raise the standard of care for retired Thoroughbreds to then increase the number of opportunities for Thoroughbreds and therefore amplify the awareness of the lengths to which the industry is caring for its great athletes. To find out how you can help or to learn more please visit the TAA website here.
SHACKLEFORD FEATURED IN THE 2015 CALENDAR

This year we were able to include stars like the 2011 Kentucky Derby winner and Dubai World Cup winner Animal Kingdom, 2013 Kentucky Derby winner Orb and two-time Breeders’ Cup winner Groupie Doll. Fan favorites such as Shackleford and Dialed In from the historic Darby Dan Farm and Violence from Hill ‘n’ Dale Farm also grace the gorgeous pages of our calendar.
We, of course, couldn’t leave out our founder Bri Mott’s own off-the-track-Thoroughbred (OTTB), Red Valentino, who was captured getting his monthly pedicure as Mr. January, and we also were able to include another OTTB, Seminary Ridge, with his lovely owner Erin Birkenhauer.

“We had a great time with this year’s edition. We were able to play with the fashion a bit more as well as the horses. We were able to include not only retired horses from the track but also some young horses heading to the track as well as some still in training with trainer John Ennis,” Mott said. “We were very excited to team up with the TAA again this year as well as Valor Ladies on our fun project.”
Valor Ladies is a women-only sister syndicate to the well-known Team Valor International, owner of Animal Kingdom when he won the Kentucky Derby and the Dubai World Cup. Valor Ladies was established by Team Valor Vice President Megan Jones to encourage a heightened participation of women in horse racing through ownership, and to create as much camaraderie, bonding and fun between women in the industry as possible.
Jones states: "We had some fantastic women at the time involved in our Team Valor partnerships – as partners themselves as well as wives, mothers, sisters and daughters of our racing partners – that were bringing a lot to the table in everything we did. They had so much enthusiasm for every aspect of the game, and I thought racing needed more people like that." To learn more about Valor Ladies visit the website here.
