Victory by Hustle Up in the $100,000 Mine That Bird Derby at Sunland Park Feb. 24 provided trainer Todd W. Fincher with his 1,000th career winner.

Owned by Dale F. Taylor Racing, Bobby J. McQueen, and Suzanne Kirby, Hustle Up was coming off a victory in the Feb. 2 Red Hedeman Mile Stakes and the New Mexico-bred son of Abstraction went gate to wire to improve to 8-0-0 in 10 starts with $363,143 in earnings.

Fincher achieved his milestone victory in his 4,227th career start, giving him a 24% career win rate. He has saddled 750 second-place runners and 617 that have run third en route to stable earnings of $25,969,128 through Sunday, according to The Jockey Club Information Systems.

Represented by his first graded stakes winner when Runaway Ghost won the 2018 Sunland Derby (G3), Fincher had his best year to date last year when he ranked 52nd nationally in both earnings with $2,831,654, and number of wins at 85.
