Dundalk was forced to call off its BetVictor Patton Stakes, a European Road to the Kentucky Derby points race, after just two races on the card were contested March 1 because of a serious medical incident in the parade ring at the track.
A member of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board security team was reported to have collapsed in the winner’s enclosure after the second race.
The medical emergency occurred on an evening where the Aidan O'Brien-trained Magic Wand exercised before the races and fellow Ballydoyle-trained stars I Can Fly and Western Australia were due to begin their campaigns. Western Australia was one of three 3-year-olds O'Brien entered in the Patton, a one-mile race contested on the all-weather track.
Only the first two races were run, with Yuften taking the opening claimer on the card for trainer Johnny Feane and apprentice Dean Curran, while O'Brien and Ryan Moore got on the scoresheet when Kentucky-bred U S S Michigan won a six-furlong maiden.
The remainder of the card, including the Patton Stakes, has yet to be rearranged.
