Buggin Out Wins Alabama-Bred Stakes in LA

Alabama-breds took center stage at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots Dec. 12 as 4-5 choice Buggin Out led wire to wire in the $50,000 Magic City Stakes .



Dennis Murphy's homebred Buggin Out won by 7 1/4 lengths in a time of 1:43.61 for the mile and 70-yard distance over a fast track. The 3-year-old gelding by Indy out of the Schembechler mare Let's Zoom is trained by Kenneth Hargrave and was ridden to victory by Fair Grounds leading jockey James Graham.



Buggin Out became the first stakes winner for his sire, who stood at Longview Farms in Alabama for 2014 fee of $750.



The winner paid $3.60, $2.60 and $2.40. Defending Magic City champ Busted Account paid $5.60 and $4 in the place spot, and Joyce's Buckaroo rounded out the top three, paying $8.60 to show.



Buggin Out won his most recent start, a maiden special weight at Delta Downs Oct. 17. He was winless in five starts at Louisiana Downs since debuting June 1. The chestnut has a 2-2-2 mark in seven races with earnings of $57,960.



In an earlier race for Alabama-breds, Jerry Hackett's homebred Ira won the $25,000 Kudzu Juvenile by a head overĀ A Bandit Walking after a wide trip under Forest Boyce .

The gelding by J Be K won the first race of his career while making his sixth start for trainer Randy Nunley and paid $8.40. Ira covered the 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:07.21.
