Description:

Jockey Fernando Perez was unseated after an incident approaching the far turn in the seventh race at Los Alamitos Race Course Dec. 13.

Perez was aboard Johns Journey in the six-furlong allowance/optional claiming race for California-breds. They were racing second at the time of the incident, which led to the disqualification of original runner-up Urban Hunter, who came over on John's Journey while on the lead.

The fallen rider was conscious, but was taken by ambulance to nearby Los Alamitos Medical Center complaining of neck pain. Although scraped up in the mishap Johns Journey apparently avoided serious injury, according to a report.

Urban Hunter, who was ridden by Alex Canchari, was placed last by the stewards.
