Bonita Farm's Bill Boniface reported Feb. 26 that the first foals of its first-year sires Alliance, Dortmund , and Kobe's Back are on the ground.
The first foal to arrive Jan. 17 was a colt by Alliance that was born in Maryland out of Rhythm in Shoes, a stakes-winning Rhythm mare owned by Sherman Chin. Alliance, a son of Harlan's Holiday, is a 5-year-old half brother to two-time champion grass mare Tepin (by Bernstein) and millionaire Vyjack (by Into Mischief , a son of Harlan's Holiday). Alliance stands for $4,000 live foal as the property of Barlar.
Multiple grade 1 winner and millionaire Dortmund got his first foal when multiple stakes winner Storied Lady (by Read the Footnotes) delivered a colt Feb. 12 in New York. The colt was bred by Tri-Country Stables, which bred and raced the mare. Dortmund, campaigned by Kaleem Shah, retired to Boniface Farm near Darlington, Md., after winning five graded stakes and earning $1,987,505 from 16 starts. The son of Big Brown captured grade 1 victories in the Los Alamitos Futurity and the Santa Anita Derby before finishing third in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1). Out of the stakes-winning Tale of the Cat mare Our Josephina, Dortmund stands for $7,500 live foal.
Kobe's Back, a four-time graded stakes-winning sprinter and earner of $1,116,595, was represented by his first foal when a filly out of Economy of Motion (by Pleasantly Perfect) was born Feb. 21 in Kentucky. The foal was bred by CRK Stable, in Kentucky. The foal was bred by CRK Stable, which also owns and raced Kobe's Back. The son of Flatter raced for five years and won or placed in 12 graded stakes. He won the San Vicente Stakes (G2) and Palos Verde Stakes (G2) and placed in the Santa Anita Sprint Championship Stakes, Bing Crosby Stakes, and Triple Bend Stakes (all G1).
Kobe's Back is a half brother to graded stakes-winning sprinter Well Spelled and stands for $3,000 live foal.
