Jockey Fernando Perez was unseated after an incident approaching the far turn in the seventh race at Los Alamitos Race Course Dec. 13, but he returned the next day to win a race at the track.

Perez was aboard Johns Journey in the six-furlong allowance/optional claiming race for California-breds. They were racing in second at the time of the incident, which led to the disqualification of original runner-up Urban Hunter, who was placed last.

Alex Canchari, who rode Urban Hunter, said Dec. 15 a stewards' hearing was held Dec.14, and stewards ruled he wasn't at fault. Johns Journey, he said, jumped the rail on his own at a point where the temporary rail is located.

Perez was conscious after the fall and was taken by ambulance to nearby Los Alamitos Medical Center complaining of neck pain. Though scraped up in the mishap, Johns Journey avoided serious injury, according to a report.
