Dettori Fractures Ankle in Nottingham Fall

Jockey Frankie Dettori will miss the rest of the season with a fractured right ankle, his business manager told the Associated Press Oct. 2.
Dettori, 42, who was slated to ride leading Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Fra-I) contender Treve in the Oct. 6 event at Longchamp, was unseated from his mount Eland Ally before a race at Nottingham Oct. 2.
According to Racing Post, trainer Criquette Head-Maarek said Thierry Jarnet will replace Dettori on Treve.
Peter Burrell, Dettori's business manager, told the Associated Press, "It's an extremely painful injury. Sunday is out—as is the season.''
According to the Racing Post, Dettori was initially thought to have only sprained his ankle after falling from Eland Ally before a five-furlong handicap, but was taken for an x-ray after remaining in discomfort for some time after the race.
Ray Cochrane, Dettori's agent, told Racing Post, "Frankie has fractured his ankle. It's a disaster. He is feeling really down about it. He will be out for at least a month."
Dettori won the 1995, 2001, and 2002 editions of the Arc. This year's running would have been his 26th consectuive time in the race and a chance at his 200th group I victory.
