America’s Best Racing and DerbyJackpot team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend in a regular feature blog that will run on Fridays.
Each week, one of our crack handicappers - Jose Contreras, Dan Tordjman, Victoria Garofalo or Cory Moelis – will provide at least one “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a win bet.
The post also will include some combination of additional bets for the weekend.
For some posts, our handicappers will try to identify a longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet.
Our handicappers also will look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or occasionally try to spot a nice opportunity to bet a trifecta or superfecta.
Place your bets at DerbyJackpot. It's the easiest and most fun online horse betting site out there. Races open for betting about five minutes before post time. Place your bets and you can walk away with some extra cash in your pocket.

This Weekend’s Bets
Saturday, Dec. 20
Best Bet (Win Bet/ Monkey Bet)
Gulfstream Park, Race 5, Post Time: 2:31 p.m. ET
#2 Dr No: YES! First time racing in the United States, taking a significant weight drop from Great Britain and he’s 10-to-1 on the morning line. At that price, consider trainer Graham Motion has a positive ROI off the layoff, first-time trainer and first-time Lasix. There are no standouts in this race, so it would be no surprise for these top connections (jockey Joel Rosario and trainer Graham Motion) to win here.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Gulfstream Park, Race 8, Tropical Park Derby, Post Time: 3:58 p.m. ET
#2 Other Cheek: Regally bred, this stakes-placed colt should be in striking position all the way around the track with jockey Julien Leparoux aboard.
#3 Ironicus: Obviously, this is a class jump for this 3-year-old colt, but he has yet to finish off the board on the grass. Back to where he broke his maiden on the first of the year, he’s got a win and a second on the grass at Gulfstream.
#9 Smooth Daddy: He got a win on this course earlier this year, has speed and must clear the field from outside. He could lead from start to finish. Smooth Daddy competed against tougher competition in his previous two starts, and top jockey Javier Castellano picks up the mount.
Sunday, Dec. 21
Best Bet (Win Bet/ Monkey Bet)
Fair Grounds, Race 6, Tiffany Lass Stakes, Post Time: 4:50 p.m. ET
#2 Cassatt: The filly looks to be back to her winning ways following an easy wire-to-wire 4 1/2-length victory in her last race. Her lone start this year at Fair Grounds was a winning one. Trainer Larry Jones and jockey Kerwin Clark have won 27% of their races together this year.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Fair Grounds, Race 8, Tenacious Stakes, Post Time: 5:50 p.m. ET
#1 Rocket Time: An aptly named gelding, Rocket Time (with Calvin Borel aboard on the rail) led from start to finish in his last race and will be the one to catch from the rail. Having the blinkers removed proved a winning equipment change as shown by his two wins off the layoff
#8 Rise Up: Trainer Tom Amoss is winning at an unconscious 33% for the year and 43% for the Fair Grounds meet. He has two horses in this race with Rise Up looking to be the better class of the two. Rise Up needed his last race coming off of a layoff of nearly five months and ran a good third. He recently had a nice workout and should be a top contender.
