Jockey Catalino Martinez scored the 1,000th victory of his career March 9 after guiding Barbello to a 2 1/2-length win in the first race at Golden Gate Fields.
Martinez cleared the hurdle in his 7,702th start and he has more than $16.7 million in career earnings. The top horses ridden by Martinez include Eagle Screams, Black Hills, and Fast and Foxy, all horses that have earned more than $200,000. His top year was 2017 when he won 133 races from 789 starts.
