Profiting on Dortmund in Los Alamitos Futurity (también en Español)

The Grade 1 Los Alamitos Futurity, previously known as the CashCall Futurity when it was held last year at Hollywood Park, now has a new home and returns to a dirt surface for the first time since 2006.
Although the race only drew a field of five, it attracted the buzz horse of the moment in Dortmund.
Dortmund has shown the talent of a much more seasoned runner in his two starts. His debut win on Nov. 2 at Santa Anita was visually impressive. He was positioned toward the middle of the pack in a large field of 11 2-year-olds before unleashing an impressive turn of foot to win going away by 4 ¾ lengths.
Following that win, trainer Bob Baffert shipped the chestnut colt by Big Brown to Churchill Downs, and he delivered a sensational performance when winning by 7 ¾ lengths against a field of 11 opponents that never stood a chance. That one-mile race at Churchill Downs might prove a very valuable asset in 2015 as the road to the Kentucky Derby gets in full gear.
In order to get a head start on the Road to the Kentucky Derby, you need points, and the Los Alamitos Futurity offers a total of 17 points toward the Derby with 10 points going to the winner.
There is no doubt that Dortmund is the one to beat and he looks have the advantage heading into this race off of two good-looking wins. The opportunity to make money on him will be very slim, considering that I expect him to be somewhere around 1-to-2 odds at post time.
The horse that I am completely against in the 1 1/16-mile Los Alamitos Futurity is Mr. Z. He’s had seven starts and doesn’t seem to have as much upside as some of the other runners. He had a very good trip in the Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes, sitting behind the speed, and looked be in a perfect spot to capitalize. But Mr. Z was not able to get the job done in the stretch and settled for second. I’m not really high on him after not taking advantage of a setup like that.
The two horses that I like are No Problem and Firing Line.
NO PROBLEM WINS THE BOB HOPE STAKES

No Problem enters this race with back-to-back wins in which he showed improvement. He’s only making his fourth lifetime start and might be the controlling speed in this field.
Firing Line looks like a runner who will appreciate the longer distance. He looked to be much the best in his debut when rallying for second after a slow start in a field of 12 on the dirt at Santa Anita. He followed that up with a nice performance at Del Mar when settling toward the middle of the pack before closing late to win going away by 4 ¼ lengths in a field of 12. He’s worked well since that race and seems to be headed for bigger things down the road.
I’m going to throw out Mr.Z and use No Problem and Firing Line behind Dortmund in the exacta. So instead of the short odds on Dortmund, maybe we can get a return of 4-to-1 or 5-to-1 on our money with the exacta.

Haciendo Dinero Apostando a Dortmund en Los Alamitos Futurity
El Grado 1 Los Alamitos Futurity, conocido anteriormente como el CashCall Futurity cuando se tramitó el año pasado en Hollywood Park, tiene ahora una nueva casa y vuelve a la superficie de arena por primera vez desde el 2006.
Aunque la carrera sólo brinda a un grupo de cinco, atrae al caballo sensación del momento, Dortmund.
Dortmund ha mostrado el talento de un caballo mucho más experimentado en sus dos salidas a la pista. Su debut triunfal el 2 de Noviembre en Santa Anita fue visualmente impresionante. Fue posicionado a mitad de grupo en un numeroso lote de 11 dos añeros antes de desarrollar un impresionante cambio de ritmo para ganar distanciándose del resto por 4 ¾ cuerpos. 
A continuación de ese triunfo, su entrenador Bob Baffert embarcó al potro alazán hijo de Big Brown a Churchill Downs, y él entregó una actuación sensacional cuando ganó por 7 ¾ cuerpos, nuevamente a un lote de 11 oponentes que jamás tuvieron chance alguna. Esa carrera sobre la milla en Churchill Downs podría convertirlo en un activo muy valioso conforme el camino hacia el Kentucky Derby se ponga en marcha.
A fin de dirigirse correctamente hacia el Kentucky Derby, uno necesita puntaje, y Los Alamitos Futurity ofrece un total de17 puntos para el Derby siendo 10 puntos otorgados al ganador. 
No hay duda que Dortmund es el llamado a vencer y él parece tener la ventaja llegando a esta carrera luego de dos triunfos que llamaron la atención. La oportunidad de hacer dinero con él será muy escasa, considerando que yo espero que él ande en dividendos cercanos al 1-a-2 a la hora de largada. 
El caballo con el que estoy completamente en contra en la 1 y 1/16-de milla de Los Alamitos Futurity es Mr. Z. Ha tenido siete salidas a la pista y no parece tener mucho techo por subir a diferencia de los otros participantes. Tuvo un desarrollo perfecto en el Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes, situándose detrás del puntero, y parecía estar en el lugar ideal para capitalizarlo. Pero Mr. Z no fue capaz de terminar la tarea en la recta y se conformó con el segundo. No me convence en realidad después de no poder tomar ventaja de un planteamiento como ése.
Los dos caballos que me gustan son No Problem y Firing Line.
No Problem llega a esta carrera luego de triunfos consecutivos en los cuales ha mostrado mejoría. Está haciendo solamente la cuarta salida a la pista y podría ser el puntero que marque la velocidad de este grupo.
Firing Lane luce como un corredor que apreciará el alargue de distancia. Lució como el mejor en su debut cuando apareció del fondo para ser segundo después de una lenta salida en un grupo de 12 en la arena de Santa Anita. Continuó la mejoría con una buena actuación en Del Mar cuando se situó a mitad del lote antes de su atropellada final tomando una distancia de 4 ¼ cuerpos sobre un grupo de12. Ha trabajado bien desde esa carrera y parece dirigirse hacia cosas mayores más adelante. 
Voy a descartar a Mr. Z y usar a No Problem y Firing Lane detrás de Dortmund en la exacta. De manera que en vez de ir por un pago corto en Dortmund, tal vez podamos conseguir un retorno de 4-a-1 o 5-a-1 en nuestro dinero con la exacta.
