A chestnut daughter of classic winner Super Saver breezed a quarter-mile in :20 2/5 to top the March 8 under tack show workouts in preparation for next week's Ocala Breeders' Sales March 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale.
The sharp move by the filly consigned as Hip 305 by Woodford Thoroughbreds, agent, not only was the fastest time of the Friday breeze show in Ocala, Fla., but was also the fastest at the distance for the first two days of the workouts that conclude Saturday starting at 8 a.m. ET.
Since being purchased last year by Woodford for $100,000 from the Shawhan Place offerings at The July Sale, Fasig-Tipton's select sale of yearlings in Kentucky, the filly has done everything right and is forwardly placed coming into the March 12-13 OBS sale.
"She's been an easy horse to train, with a good mind, is a good mover, and is easy on herself," said John Gleason, director of Woodford Thoroughbreds' Ocala-based training center. "She's coming into the sale with no hiccups over the season, so we're excited."
As a daughter of Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) winner Super Saver, the filly is "really well-balanced, with a good motion, and great walk on her," Gleason said. "She's a really pretty filly."
Bred in Kentucky by Martha Jane Mulholland and Yehuda Cohen, the Jan. 29, 2017, foal was produced from the Majestic Warrior mare Macha, a $156,014 earner who finished third in three stakes, including the Honeymoon Handicap (G2T). The filly's female family also includes multiple stakes winner Deputy Warlock.
Woodford already had a relationship with the filly's family after purchasing Macha, then in foal to More Than Ready , for $130,000 from Mulholland Springs at the 2017 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, some eight months before getting her Super Saver daughter.
"I saw the filly in July and loved her, and obviously realized we had the mare, but it was more of a coincidence than a well-thought-out plan," Gleason said, noting that Macha has subsequently produced a More Than Ready filly.
The day's second-fastest quarter-mile time of :20 3/5 came from a Biondetti colt consigned by Julie Davies, agent, as Hip 350. Bred in Florida by Ponder Hill, the colt foaled April 20, 2017, is out of the Siphon mare Natural Glow, a daughter of Blushing Deed, who was grade 2-placed as a 2-year-old.
During another smooth day of workouts in which OBS' Safetrack artificial track was playing consistent for the 6 1/2-hour breeze show, the eighth-mile best time of :09 4/5 was shared by a dozen 2-year-olds.
