Trainer James DiVito Collects 1,000th Win

Veteran trainer James DiVito posted the 1,000th win of his career Dec. 20 when Jazzy Sun prevailed in the eighth race at Hawthorne Racecourse.



DiVito is a multiple graded stakes-winning conditioner whose career began in the 1975, according to Equibase statistics. Three-year-old Jazzy Sun won the $24,200 allowance race by half a length for owner/breeder Kathleen Halleran.



The gelded son of Jazil, ridden by Tim Thornton, completed six furlongs on a fast track in 1:11.60 and paid $5.40 as the second choice.



DiVito won the Arlington-Washington Futurity (gr. III) with Recount at Arlington International Race Course in September. He also captured the 2007 Arlington Matron (gr. III) with Solo Survivor and the 2007 Kentucky Cup Sprint (gr. III) with Piratesonthelake.



The Illinois-based trainer also races in Florida and Kentucky. DiVito's best year was 2011 when he established career bests of 71 wins and purse earnings of $1,661,444 from 293 starters. He has 46 wins this year from 239 starters, totaling $1,141,969 in purses.



Divito has had 6,676 starters through Dec. 20 and total purse earnings of nearly $19 million, according to Equibase. In addition to his victories, he has recorded 922 seconds and 905 third-place finishes.
