Jockey Edgar Prado was off his mounts at Gulfstream Park Dec. 26, recovering from a spill four days earlier in the seventh race.

Prado's agent, Bob Klesaris, said Prado is "day to day." The Hall of Fame rider went down Dec. 23 when his mount, Equilibrium, clipped heels with another horse in the 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight event.

"He's doing OK," Klesaris said. "There was nothing career-ending or life-threatening. He had a pretty good laceration above his eye and on the corner of his eye, and he had a little bit of plastic surgery. He just looked like he came out of a prize fight. I guess, in reality, he's going to miss three or four days. He's already missed two, and he's off his mounts today, so I'd say he's day to day."

Equilibrium fell when he was pressing pacesetter Royal Squeeze and clipped heels with that rival when Royal Squeeze ducked out sharply near the six-furlong pole. A second horse, Saraguaro, also fell, dislodging jockey Paco Lopez, who was not injured and continued to ride Tuesday. Royal Squeeze was disqualified and placed last.

Prado, 47, is currently sixth in the riding standings at Gulfstream in both wins, with nine, and purses earned, $258,390. He finished second at the Gulfstream Park West meet at Calder with 42 wins and in money won, nearly $1.05 million.

The native of Lima, Peru was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2008, two years after guiding Barbaro to victories in the Florida Derby (gr. I) and Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I). He has ridden the winners of 6,784 races and nearly $253 million in purses.
