Moments after the Oaklawn Park track opened for training March 23, multiple stakes winner Whitmore worked five furlongs for co-owner/trainer Ron Moquett. The breeze was the first for the 6-year-old gelding since winning the $150,000 Hot Springs Stakes March 9 for the third consecutive year.
Under Greta Kuntzweiler, Whitmore went in :59 2/5 over a fast track. Working alongside him was stablemate Petrov, who was credited with the same time by clockers.
The Hot Springs marked Whitmore's first start since finishing second in the $2 million TwinSpires Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) Nov. 3 at Churchill Downs. Whitmore is scheduled to make his next start in the $500,000 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap (G3) for older horses at Oaklawn April 13, a race he's won the past two years.
Working a few minutes after Whitmore was 2018 Queen's Plate Stakes winner Wonder Gadot, who covered a half-mile in :49 4/5 under David Cohen. The daughter of Medaglia d'Oro breezed for the first time since finishing second in a March 8 allowance race—her 4-year-old debut.
The Canadian champion is a finalist for a second Sovereign Award as Canada's champion 3-year-old filly after beating males in the first two legs of the Canadian Triple Crown, including the Queen's Plate June 30 at Woodbine.
Wonder Gadot is a candidate for the $750,000 Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) for older fillies and mares April 14.
