Description:

After finishing second by a half length as the 7-10 favorite in the La Brea Stakes (gr. I) Dec. 26, Taris was found to have suffered an injury to her right front ankle that will require surgery, trainer Simon Callaghan said from Santa Anita Park.

"We'll send her to Ashfold Stud (in Versailles, Ky.) for 90 days," Callaghan said the morning after the La Brea. He reported that the injury was a non-displaced condylar fracture that will require screws to repair the break.

Taris, who set a fast pace in the seven-furlong La Brea before being collared by Sam's Sister in the final strides, is to undergo surgery Dec. 29.

A 3-year-old daughter of Flatter  , Taris was purchased at the recent Fasig-Tipton November sale for $2.35 million by Coolmore connections Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith, and John Magnier. In her previous start Oct. 18, the brilliant filly captured the Raven Run (gr. II) at Keeneland by nine lengths.
