Jockeys' Guild Announces New Senate Members

The Jockeys’ Guild announced Dec. 30 that 27 Guild members have been elected to the organization’s Senate, including seven new Senate members: Russell Baze, Dennis Carr, Julien Leparoux, Leslie Mawing, Irad Ortiz Jr., Jesus Sanchez, and Elvis Trujillo.

Among other responsibilities, the Senate determines the levels of dues and assessments and selects the board members, including chairman. Senate members are elected for a two-year term and will be formally inducted at the Guild’s annual meeting Jan. 19-20 in Hollywood, Fla.

“The Guild sincerely appreciates the work and support of the previous Senate members and looks forward to working with the newly elected members to further the goals of the Guild,” said Guild National Manager Terry Meyocks. “The Guild is the organization providing a voice for the riders in the industry and it is essential that we have dedicated jockeys who are actively involved.”

The 27 Senate members are elected by fellow Guild members, with nine from each of three regions. The list of Guild Senate members follows:

Eastern: Joe Bravo, Abel Castellano Jr., Javier Castellano, Mike Luzzi, Irad Ortiz Jr., Edgar Prado, Sheldon Russell, Jesus Sanchez, John R. Velazquez.

Central: Robby Albarado, Alex Birzer, Joel Campbell, Jon Court, James Graham, Brian Hernandez Jr., Julien Leparoux, Glen Murphy, Rodney Prescott.

Western: Russell Baze, Dennis Carr, G.R. Carter, Cody Jensen, Casey Lambert, Leslie Mawing, Mike Smith, Joe Talamo, Elvis Trujillo.
