Stakes Hat Trick for New Zealand's In Style

Description:

Trainer Danica Guy was represented by her first group I winner Jan. 1 when In Style held off closer Whosyourmaster in the Sistema Railway Stakes (NZ-I) at Ellerslie Racecourse for her third stakes win in a row.

In Style, who went into the Railway after wins in the listed Counties Bowl and Concorde Handicap (NZ-III), was ridden by jockey Leith Innes just off the pace before answering every call in the straight. The mare posted a half-head victory over Whosyourmaster, with a half-head back to Durham Town, who was taken to the front 800 meters out.

Guy said In Style, owned by Paul and Shirlie Ryan, will be pointed toward the J & N Berkett Telegraph Stakes (NZ-I) Jan. 17.

"It feels pretty good right now, and I can't say enough good things about this horse," Guy said. "She's pretty special. She's pretty easy to train and I don't need to do a lot of galloping with her. The Telegraph is still on the table, but we'll get her home and see how it goes."

"I rode her in her first two starts and got the drag, so it's good to get back on her in a group one," Innes said. "To her credit she put her head down right on the line."

"We're not really disappointed; he has put in a career-best run," said Whosyourmaster's co-trainer Andrew Scott. "He'll go to Wellington for the Telegraph and he'll be pretty hard to bowl down there."
