Mahoning Valley Meet Starts Jan. 5

Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course, which wrapped up its successful inaugural racing season Dec. 30, will open its 2015 winter/spring meet Monday, Jan. 5. 
 
First post time is 12:45 p.m. EST.
 
Angel O. Stanley and T. D. Houghton, who finished one-two in the leading jockey standings at the 21-day inaugural meet, are set to continue their battle for the top spot as they both are expected ride extensively throughout the season. 
 
Christian Pilares, Jason Lumpkins, and Luis Gonzalez are also among the jockey colony. 
 
Jeff Radosevich, who capped off his richest season ever by capturing the leading trainer title at both Mahoning Valley Race Course and ThistleDown in nearby North Randall, is expected to compete against a strong local contingent that includes Shane Spiess, Robert Gorham, Rodney Faulkner, and others.
 
"The first condition book is out and available in the racing office as well as online at hollywoodmahoningvalley.com." said Ed Vomacka, the racing secretary at Mahoning Valley Race Course. "The daily overnight purses will average approximately $70,000 and our stake races for Ohio-breds will now be worth $75,000, up from $50,000 in 2014."
 
The season, which will run through Saturday, April 25, will feature a total of 64 days of racing that will be conducted on a four-day-a-week schedule, Mondays through Wednesdays, and Saturdays, with a first post of 12:45 p.m.
