Limousine Liberal returns to the races to begin his 7-year-old campaign in the $250,000 Commonwealth Stakes (G3) April 6 at Keeneland.
Katherine Ball's homebred Successful Appeal gelding spends most of the year in Lexington and wintered at Keeneland this season. He has banked nearly $1.8 million and is a four-time graded stakes winner, but of his six black-type victories, five have come at Churchill Downs and none at Keeneland, a situation trainer Ben Colebrook is looking to change.
"I think he's as good here and likes it as much as he does at Churchill," said Colebrook. "He's just had some brutal beats here. He's doing really well, and I don't see anything different in him as far as age. He's getting his game face on. It's a tough race to start the season with, being seven furlongs, but there looks like there's enough pace to set it up for him."
This is Limousine Liberal's third try at the Commonwealth. He is 5-for-11 at the race's seven-furlong distance.
Sagamore Farm's Recruiting Ready enters off a score in the Gulfstream Park Sprint Stakes (G3) and will likely make the pace from the two hole. He is a six-furlong specialist trying seven for just the second time but is in sharp form.
China Horse Club, WinStar Farm, Head of Plains Partners, and SF Racing will send out Copper Town from the rail. He ran second behind Prince Lucky in the Hal's Hope Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park and won an allowance event by five lengths last fall in his only Keeneland appearance.
Also entered is Joe Peacock's homebred Runaway Ghost, who returned from the injury that knocked him out of last year's Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) to win back-to-back races for trainer Todd Fincher—the Feb. 2 Ft. Bliss Stakes going six furlongs by 2 1/2 lengths, and the Feb. 24 Curribot Handicap going 1 1/16 miles by 1 1/2 lengths, both at Sunland Park. This is the first foray to the Bluegrass State for the 4-year-old son of Ghostzapper whose prior starts all came at Sunland or in California.
