Brown Chases Another Appalachian With Regal Glory

Regal Glory (outside) wins the Nov. 11 Stewart Manor Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack

Paul Pompa Jr.'s Regal Glory, runner-up in the Feb. 3 Sweetest Chant Stakes (G3T) at Gulfstream Park, heads a field of 11 3-year-old fillies in the $200,000 Appalachian Stakes Presented by Japan Racing Association (G2T) April 7 at Keeneland.

The daughter of Animal Kingdom  is trained by Chad Brown, who has won this race three times—with Dayatthespa (2012), Lady Eli (2015), and last year with Rushing Fall.

Regal Glory broke her maiden at first asking in October and won the Nov. 11 Stewart Manor Stakes over six furlongs on the outer turf at Aqueduct Racetrack before missing by 2 1/2 lengths to A Bit Special in her season debut, the one-mile Sweetest Chant. 

Regular rider Jose Ortiz has the mount from post 9.

Brown also will send out Juddmonte Farms' homebred Clause, a Speightstown  filly who won her only start going a mile Feb. 9 at Gulfstream. Clause will break from the inside under Irad Ortiz Jr.

Also figuring to garner attention from patrons Sunday is Three Chimneys Farm homebred Princesa Carolina. Trained by Kenny McPeek, the daughter of Tapit  out of grade 1 winner Pure Clan came off a four-month layoff to run second in the March 2 Herecomesthebride Stakes (G3T) at Gulfstream. A troubled fifth in the JPMorgan Chase Jessamine Stakes (G2T) at Keeneland last fall, Princesa Carolina will be ridden by Brian Hernandez Jr. from post 5.
