Heart to Heart wins the 2018 Maker's 46 Mile at Keeneland

A loaded field of graded stakes winners are slated to line up April 12 for the $300,000 Maker's 46 Mile (G1T) at Keeneland. Seven older horses will take on Terry Hamilton's Heart to Heart, who will attempt to defend his title and score his first victory in a year.

Trained by Brian Lynch, Heart to Heart scored back-to-back grade 1s last season, taking the Gulfstream Park Turf Stakes (G1T) prior to the Maker's 46 Mile. He then missed by a neck in the Shoemaker Mile (G1T) at Santa Anita Park in late May. The 8-year-old son of English Channel  finished 2018 with two off the board finishes, came back to get third in Gulfstream Park's Tropical Turf Stakes (G3T) Jan. 12 with a tough trip, then faded to fourth in the Feb. 9 Tampa Bay Stakes (G3T) at Tampa Bay Downs.

Peter Brant's Raging Bull is set for his 4-year-old debut and first race since winning the Dec. 1 Hollywood Derby (G1) at Del Mar. The Dark Angel colt cuts back an eighth-mile for Friday's race, his first time going this short since he finished second in Belmont Park's Manila Stakes July 4. During the Saratoga Race Course meet, the Chad Brown trainee won the Aug. 3 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes (G2T) going 1 1/16 miles and the Sept. 1 Saranac Stakes (G3T) at 1 1/8 miles.

Stronach Stable's Delta Prince represents another major player in the Maker's 46 Mile after kicking off his 6-year-old season by rallying for third in the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes (G1T) Jan. 26 at Gulfstream Park. That effort came at 1 3/16 miles over yielding turf. The son of Street Cry earned his first stakes victory going a mile at Woodbine in the King Edward Stakes (G2T) June 30 with trainer Jimmy Jerkens.

Heart to Heart will be back against recent rivals Doctor Mounty and Qurbaan from Florida. Larry Pratt and Dave Alden's Doctor Mounty rallied to win the Tropical Turf and was up for third in the March 29 Appleton Stakes (G3T). Shadwell Stable's Qurbaan has hit the board in his last three starts, including the Tampa Bay Stakes last out. He won the Sept. 3 Bernard Baruch Handicap (G2T) at Saratoga in his first start stateside after primarily racing in France from 2015-17.

The Nearctic (G2T) and El Prado stakes winner Hembree, Buddy Diliberto Memorial Stakes winner Great Wide Open, and last out Gulfstream Park allowance winner Clyde's Image complete the field.

On the Maker's 46 Mile undercard is the $100,000 Limestone Turf Sprint for 3-year-old fillies going 5 1/2 furlongs. Hatcreek Racing's Chelsea Cloisters will attempt to shed her seconditis after being runner-up in four consecutive stakes, including the Nov. 2 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint. Slated to face 13 others in the overflow field, the Wesley Ward trainee will break from post 12 under Tyler Gaffalione.
