Grade 1-winning freshman sire Competitive Edge  had his first winner early in the season when his daughter Reiterate won her debut April 11, finishing in a dead heat with Marva at Gulfstream Park.

The pair dueled through the stretch in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race to finish 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Sonar. Marva led through opening fractions of :22.16 and :45.76 before Reiterate joined her in the stretch after settling into second. Sonar rallied to get the show placing, leaving the next finisher 6 1/4 lengths farther back.

Bred in Florida by John Penn, Reiterate is out of the Arch mare Flying Arch, who has produced three other winners. Gabe Grossberg purchased Reiterate out of the Ocala Breeders' Sales October Yearling Sale for $45,000 from the consignment of Sue Vacek.

A son of Super Saver  trained by Todd Pletcher, Competitive Edge won his first four starts, taking the Hopeful Stakes (G1) as a 2-year-old and then returning at 3 to win the Tamarac Stakes and Pat Day Mile Stakes (G3).

Competitive Edge was retired to Ashford Stud in October 2015 after failing to hit the board in three consecutive starts. His first-year fee was $12,500, and his first foals were well-received at public auction. He is standing in 2019 for $5,000.
