Hastings General Manager MacDonald Promoted

Hastings Racecourse general manager Darren MacDonald has been named director of BC Racing and will direct British Columbia racing operations for Great Canadian Gaming.

"In addition to his responsibilities as general manager of Hastings Racecourse, Darren will now be providing oversight and direction to Great Canadian's horseracing operations in British Columbia, both Thoroughbred racing at Hastings and now Standardbred at Fraser Downs Racetrack & Casino," Terrance M. Doyle, executive vice president, BC operations and development, Great Canadian Gaming Corporation, said in a statement.

MacDonald, 42, joined the Hastings team as manager of gaming operations in 2007 and over the past five years has been extensively involved in the racing side of the business at Hastings Racecourse. He was named general manager at Hastings in March, 2014.

With a two-year extension to the operating agreement with the city of Vancouver for the Hastings property confirmed in October 2014, MacDonald announced a 50-day meet for 2015 beginning April 25 and running through Oct. 12, with four tentative dates reserved for later in October depending upon the success of the 2015 season.
