America’s Best Racing and DerbyJackpot team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend in a regular feature blog that will run on Fridays.
Each week, one of our crack handicappers - Jose Contreras, Dan Tordjman, Victoria Garofalo or Cory Moelis – will provide at least one “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a win bet.
The post also will include some combination of additional bets for the weekend.
For some posts, our handicappers will try to identify a longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet.
Our handicappers also will look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or occasionally try to spot a nice opportunity to bet a trifecta or superfecta.
Place your bets at DerbyJackpot. It's the easiest and most fun online horse betting site out there. Races open for betting about five minutes before post time. Place your bets and you can walk away with some extra cash in your pocket.

This Weekend’s Bets
Saturday, Jan. 9
Best Bet (Win Bet/ Monkey Bet)
Santa Anita, Race 4, Post time: 5 p.m. ET
#5 Demonica: She's turned into a completely new horse since she switched to the turf. Both of her grass attempts have resulted in stylish wins, and her front-running style should have her out in the clear early on. Although there are a few others who might apply some pace pressure, I think she will be able to control the tempo.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Santa Anita, Race 7, Post time: 6:30 p.m. ET
#1 Anytime Anyplace: He showed encouraging early speed in his debut and finished almost two lengths clear of the third-place finisher in a field of 12. There is plenty of upside entering his second start, and his sire has decent numbers with runners trying the turf for the first time.
#2 Secreto Primero: I like that he has experience on this downhill turf course when finishing third in October and also that he will be making his first start as a gelding. He’s shown some talent before and he might be a new horse with the time off and making his first start as a 3-year-old.
#11 Nakamoto: I like when horses who have been running well around two turns cut back in distance to this downhill trip. They seem to do well since this layout tends to play like an elongated sprint. He’s got enough speed to stay close to the leaders and make a move in the stretch.

Best Bet (Win Bet/ Monkey Bet)
Gulfstream, Race 3, Post time: 1:38 p.m. ET
#7 Yes That’s Me: He disappointed in his most recent start when finishing a well-beaten fifth against tougher competition on the turf. His two starts on the grass have resulted in off-the-board finishes, and he now returns to the dirt while also making a drop in class. He’s a perfect 2-for-2 when running on this track and at this distance.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Gulfstream, Race 7, Post time: 3:34 p.m. ET
#2 Miss Tatey Cat: Almost stole the race gate-to-wire in her most recent start when she was caught in the final strides while holding on for third. She’s cutting back a bit in distance and that might be the difference maker. She should be able to establish a good position early on.
#5 Jester and Me: Was closing tons of ground late and ran a valiant second while missing the win by head. She looks to be getting to the best form of her career and now picks up the services of a top jockey. I would not be surprised if she sweeps them all up.
#8 Heaven’s Touch: She’s shown talent while sprinting but now tries routing for the first time while also making her turf debut. Based on those two things, she might be a solid price on the toteboard. Her trainer does well with this move, and she has been training on the grass in preparation for today.
