B.C. Challenge Series Begins in South Africa

The 2015 Breeders' Cup Challenge series gets started Saturday, Jan. 10, with automatic berths in two of South Africa's most prestigious races: the L'Ormarins Queen's Plate (SAf-I) and the Main Chance Farms Paddock Stakes (SAf-I) at Kenilworth, .

The winner of the Queen's Plate, for 3-year-olds and up at one mile on turf, earns a starting position in the Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT) while the winner of the Paddock, for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up at 1 1/8 miles, secures a spot in the Filly & Mare Turf (gr. IT) at the 2015 Breeders' Cup World Championships Oct. 30-31 at Keeneland.

The Breeders' Cup Challenge is an international series of stakes races whose winners receive automatic berths, and fees paid, into a corresponding race of the Breeders' Cup World Championships. 

Legislate (SAF), South Africa's Horse of the Year, leads the nine-horse field for the Queen's Plate, while Jet Aglow heads the 13-horse field expected for the Main Chance Farms Paddock Stakes, which follows the Queen's Plate on the Jan. 10 card.
