Mick and Wendy Ruis of Ruis Racing have purchased the Woodford County farm formerly owned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Kirkpatrick & Co. announced April 18.

"This particular farm was beautiful, productive, well designed, and is in a great location," listing broker Tom Biederman said in a release.

Kirkpatrick & Co. associate Cathy Davis represented the buyers.

"My clients love Kentucky," Davis said. "They know it is the place for their breeding and racing operations. This farm was everything they had hoped for and more."

The property measures 305-plus acres of rolling bluegrass with an excellent location and proven, productive soils. Equine improvements include five barns with more than 90 stalls and 11 miles of plank fencing encompassing 10 fields and 27 paddocks. Immediate neighbors include Coolmore America's Ashford Stud, Diamond A, Godolphin's Gainsborough Farm, and Pin Oak Stud.

Owned by John Sykes and managed by John Gleason, Woodford Thoroughbreds closed its Kentucky farm in January and consolidated all horse operations at its farm near Ocala, Fla. Woodford continues to breed its mares in Kentucky. Other members of the Woodford team include Lincoln Collins of Kern Thoroughbreds, leading Florida consignor Beth Bayer, and marketing and client relations director Shannon Castagnola.
