Six Column Stables and Randy Bloch's Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) winner Champagne Anyone turned in her third local work since her Florida victory, breezing five furlongs in company in :59 4/5 April 22 at Churchill Downs ahead of the May 3 Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1).
Under jockey Chris Landeros, Champagne Anyone worked with 4-year-old allowance winner Kearny County. The Street Sense filly produced fractions of :12 3/5, :24 1/5, :35 4/5, :48 2/5 and galloped out six furlongs in 1:12 3/5. The work was the second fastest of 35 at the distance.
"I think I can win the Oaks," Landeros said with a smile. "This filly is doing so well and did everything perfect today. I'm so happy with the way she breezed. She really impressed me with her development in a short period of time from the Gulfstream Park Oaks. I think she's maturing mentally at the right time. (trainer) Ian (Wilkes) and his team have her in a great spot physically."
Larry Jones, Cindy Jones, and Ray Francis' Street Band turned in her second local work since winning the Twinspires.com Fair Grounds Oaks (G2), covering five furlongs in 1:00 2/5 under jockey Sophie Doyle.
Working on her own and wearing blinkers as usual, Street Band recorded fractions of :12 4/5 and :25 3/5 and galloped out to six furlongs in 1:14 2/5. The work was the fourth fastest of 35 at the distance.
"One more to go," said Corey York, assistant to trainer Larry Jones. "He is at Oaklawn now and probably will be here next Sunday when she works. She would have worked yesterday but didn't because of the weather."
Street Band, who trained here last summer, had turned in an identical 1:00 2/5 work last Monday.
"That was pretty good," Doyle said. "She does it so easily and just pulls me around there."
Phoenix Thoroughbred III and KatieRich Stables' Fantasy Stakes (G3) winner Lady Apple had a walk day in Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen's Barn 38 at Churchill Downs following her breeze April 21, in which no official time was given because of fog.
Fair Grounds Oaks runner-up Liora and Commonwealth Stable's lightly-raced filly Out for a Spin both galloped Monday during the 7:30 a.m. exclusive training window.
By Hard Spun , Dallas Stewart-trained Out for a Spin will attempt to give the 59-year-old conditioner his first win in the Kentucky Oaks since winning the 1 1/8-mile race with Lemons Forever in 2006.
When the track reopened after a harrow break for Derby and Oaks horses Monday, trainer Tom Amoss had Joel Politi's Serengeti Empress in the group with exercise rider Francisco Herrera.
Sticking to plans, the daughter of Alternation galloped 1 1/2 miles as she did Sunday morning. The filly is expected to breeze Tuesday morning.
Amoss has not committed Serengeti Empress to the Oaks since she bled in her previous start, and how she trains will determine if she'll make the race.
