A precocious-looking son of Street Boss was purchased by Barbara Banke's Stonestreet Stables for $535,000 from breeder and consignor Ocala Stud during the March 25 penultimate session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training.
The Florida-bred colt consigned as Hip 856 is out of the Bernardini mare Woodland Park, a daughter of multiple grade 3 winner Forest Heiress. The mare was purchased by Ocala Stud for $55,000 from Taylor Made Sales Agency at the 2016 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale while carrying the colt in utero.
"A lot of our colts are later-maturing, and he looks like he will be a 2-year-old and will fit a spot for us," said Stonestreet's agent, John Moynihan. "He looks like he will be fast and ready to go."
Ocala Stud's David O'Farrell said the farm, which sells its annual crops of foals as 2-year-olds at OBS sales, acquired Forest Heiress because she traces back to some Ocala Stud bloodstock and because she was by Bernardini. Third dam Penniless Heiress is the dam of grade 1 winner and sire Wildcat Heir.
"It goes back to one of our foundation families, and we believe Bernardini is going to be a good broodmare sire," O'Farrell said. "We look for variety and try to buy mares in foal to a stallion that is affordable. We're excited to have her."
O'Farrell said the Street Boss colt was a favorite on the farm.
"He's been such a cool horse from day one," he said. "He was the favorite. The foal loves people. He has a great personality, and he's never had a bad day in his life. He's just a kind horse and has a lot of athleticism."
O'Farrell said the price was an unexpected reward.
"You could never expect these types of results, but it is very rewarding when they come over here and perform extremely well and show themselves with a lot of class," he said.
