Champagne Anyone breezes under jockey Chris Landeros April 28 at Churchill Downs

Three fillies who hope to figure prominently in the outcome of the May 3 Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) took to the track for recorded workouts the morning of April 28 at Churchill Downs. Hitting the work tab were Champagne Anyone, Lady Apple, and Street Band.

Trainer Ian Wilkes tightened the screws on Champagne Anyone, a daughter of 2007 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) winner Street Sense  who went four furlongs in :48. It was the eighth-fastest of 76 at the trip. Regular rider Chris Landeros was up.

"It was just what we wanted," Wilkes said in his best "trainer-speak" manner.

He then got a bit more serious. "The filly's happy and doing well. That's the main thing. We're just letting her stretch her legs. I was pleased with the way she finished down the lane, and she galloped out well."

Watching was co-owner Randall Bloch of Louisville and Wilkes' former boss, Hall of Fame trainer Carl Nafzger.

Champagne Anyone, who is also owned by Brad Stephens' Six Column Stables, has a 3-0-3 mark from seven starts and has earned $267,950. A $70,000 Keeneland September Yearling Sale purchase, she won the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) in her most recent effort.

Also going a half-mile was Phoenix Thoroughbreds and KatieRich Stables' Lady Apple, who was clocked in :49 4/5. The daughter of Curlin , bred by Larry and Karen Doyle's KatieRich Farms, was a smooth mover over the track for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Undefeated in three starts this year and winner of the Fantasy Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn Park last time out, Lady Apple is out of Miss Mary Apples, by Clever Trick. Asmussen has won the Oaks twice, with Summerly in 2005 and Untapable in 2014.

Larry and Cindy Jones and Ray Francis' Street Band clocked five furlongs in 1:00 1/5. The Istan filly was ridden by regular rider Sophie Doyle, who described the work as "electric." The move was the sixth-fastest of 25 workers at the trip.

Trainer Larry Jones was not on hand as he remained with his string of horses at Oaklawn, but he will make his way to Louisville Monday. He's a three-time Oaks winner, having saddled Proud Spell (2008), Believe You Can (2012), and Lovely Maria (2015).

Street Band, out of the Street Cry mare Street Minstrel, was an impressive 3 3/4-length winner of the Twinspires.com Fair Grounds Oaks (G2). She sports a 3-0-2 mark from eight starts and has earned $310,325.

The draw for the $1.25 million Oaks, which is expected to draw a full gate of 14, takes place Monday at 11 a.m. ET.
