WinStar Farm's multiple grade 1-winning freshman sire Carpe Diem was represented by his first winner from his first starter April 17 at Keeneland.
Named Nayibeth, the bay filly won in gate-to-wire fashion in the $60,000 maiden special weight going 4 1/2 furlongs. She broke smartly under jockey Joel Rosario and rolled effortlessly through fractions of :22.52 and :45.28 and finished in :51.54.
Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, Nayibeth is owned by Ramon Tallaj and trained by Wesley Ward. Tallaj acquired the filly through bloodstock agent Ben McElroy, who bought her as a yearling for $230,000 at The October Sale out of the Denali Stud consignment.
Nayibeth is out of the unraced Coronado's Quest mare Le Relais, making her a half sister to multiple graded stakes winner Soldat (by War Front ).
Barbara Banke's Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings bought Le Relais for $800,000 at the 2011 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale from the Elm Tree Farm consignment. The mare has produced four winners from six to race. She has a yearling by Ghostzapper .
Carpe Diem is a son of Giant's Causeway out of the Unbridled's Song stakes winner Rebridled Dreams. Racing for WinStar and Stonestreet, the colt won the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (G1) at 2 and was second in the Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1). At 3, he won the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G1) and the Tampa Bay Derby (G2). Carpe Diem was retired in the summer of his sophomore year due to a knee chip with a 4-1-0 record out of six starts and earnings of $1,519,800.
The stallion stands for a fee of $25,000 for the 2019 breeding season.
