Owlette scores a maiden victory at Woodbine

In her second start, David Mowat's Owlette became the first winner for her sire, Frac Daddy , taking a $71,000 maiden special weight at Woodbine by four lengths May 3.

Patrick Husbands rode the filly trained by Wesley Ward to the lead, where she set fractions of :22.52 and :45.94 through a half-mile before opening in the stretch to win the 4 1/2-furlong juvenile filly test in a final time of :52.16.

Owlette, who finished second to her stablemate Nayibeth at Keeneland in her debut, is the ninth winner for her dam, the American Chance mare Itstartswithadream.

Frac Daddy, a gray son of Scat Daddy who stands at Park Stud in Ontario, won the Eclipse Stakes (G2) at Woodbine and Ben Ali Stakes (G3) at Keeneland while in training with Ken McPeek and campaigned by Magic City Thoroughbred Partners.

As a 2-year-old, Frac Daddy was second by a neck in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2). After making unsuccessful starts in the Holy Bull Stakes (G3) and Besilu Stables Florida Derby (G1), he came back to finish second behind Overanalyze  in the Arkansas Derby (G1). He then was a contender in two legs of the Triple Crown but was unplaced in both.

He retired to stud with a record of 5-7-0 from 20 starts and career earnings of $701,236. His 2019 fee is CA$4,000.
