City Front wins his second start by 3 1/2 lengths at Indiana Grand

Airdrie Stud's freshman sire Summer Front  was represented by his first winner when his 2-year-old colt City Front led from start to finish in a May 3 maiden race at Indiana Grand.

Trained by John Dyer for Brad Simpson Stables, City Front debuted at Keeneland April 5 but had difficulty on the turns, running wide in a race won by Lady Pauline, a half sister to group 1 winner Lady Aurelia.

The colt, who was bought for $5,500 at The October Sale, Fasig-Tipton's Kentucky Fall yearling auction, set fractions of :23.23 and :46.62 through a half-mile before finishing off the 4 1/2-furlong juvenile test in :52.83 to score by 3 1/2 lengths with jockey Deshawn Parker aboard.

Bred in Kentucky by Two Stamp Stables, City Front is the third winner from as many to race out of the Old Trieste mare Veneti.

Racing for Waterford Stable and trainer Christophe Clement, Summer Front was a multiple graded stakes winner on turf. He also finished second in three grade 1 tests—the 2014 Shoemaker Mile Stakes (G1T) and Eddie Read Stakes (G1T), and the 2015 Frank E. Kilroe Mile (G1T).

The son of War Front  out of the grade 1 producer Rose of Summer retired with a record of 8-6-3 from 23 starts and $1,077,140 in earnings while racing from ages 2 to 6. Summer Front has stood for a fee of $10,000 since entering stud.
