For a second consecutive year, Ken and Sarah Ramsey were voted an Eclipse Award as outstanding breeders, once again eclipsing perennial leader Adena Springs Farm.
As they did in 2013, the Ramseys topped the breeders' earnings list in 2014, with $10,412,411. The Ramseys were also the Eclipse Award winners for the second year in a row as outstanding owners for 2014. Adena, Frank Stronach's breeding operation that topped the breeders' earnings list for a decade until that string was broken by the Ramseys in 2013, finished second again in 2014.
For the year, the Ramseys bred the winners of 264 races from 1,771 starts.
The Ramseys' ascension to the top of the breeders' list is due almost solely to the success of Kitten's Joy , their champion turf horse who stands at their Ramsey Farm near Nicholasville, Ky. The leading general sire in North America in 2013, Kitten's Joy ranked third in 2014.
Among the 20 stakes winners bred by the Ramseys in 2014, 15 were homebreds they raced with various trainers.
The Ramseys’ grade I wins in 2014 came from Bobby's Kitten, who scored in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (gr. IT), Real Solution , who won the Knob Creek Manhattan Stakes (gr. IT), and Stephanie's Kitten, who got home first in the Flower Bowl Stakes (gr. IT).
They also bred grade/group III winners Admiral Kitten, Home Run Kitten, and Steaming Kitten (in Italy).
