Nun the Less scores in the Kentucky Cup Classic at Turfway Park

Nun the Less, who will be giving seven pounds to his 10 foes, was installed as the 7-2 morning-line favorite in the May 11 Hanshin Cup Stakes (G3) at Arlington International Racecourse. The $100,000 Hanshin Cup is for older horses going a flat mile.

Nun the Less has never been off the board in five starts over synthetic surfaces, with three wins, a second, and a third. In March, he won the Kubota Kentucky Cup Classic Stakes at Turfway Park over synthetic with a late blitz going nine furlongs. Late last year, he also took the Prairie Bayou Stakes at Turfway after making a midrace move that carried him to just off the pace. He is coming off a solid second over the main track at Keeneland in the April Ben Ali Stakes (G3). Cipriano Contreras trains and co-owns the 7-year-old Candy Ride  gelding with Crystal Racing Enterprises.

Sir Anthony won a stakes going a mile at Arlington last summer, the first of four consecutive victories that culminated with a score in the Harlan's Holiday Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park in December. The 4-year-old Mineshaft  ridgling most recently finished a close-up second to Marconi in the Skip Away Stakes at Gulfstream.

Richiesinthehouse owns an impressive ledger of three victories in four starts over Arlington's synthetic surface. He strung together four straight wins against lesser company, a streak that came to a rude ending when he checked in 11th in the Commonwealth Stakes (G3) at Keeneland in April. He is 10-for-14 lifetime.

Goneghost is another who has shown an affinity for the layout, having won twice and finished third three times in six starts on the Arlington all-weather. He has finished off the board just twice in 18 starts and held a four-length lead in the stretch of the Hanshin Cup last year before ending up second.
