Freshman sire Call Me George, a grade 2-winning son of Point Given, had his first winner when Lady George won a waiver maiden claiming race in her second start May 10 at Pimlico Race Course.
The 2-year-old Lady George, one of three named foals by the sire, came from just off the pace to sweep to the front in the stretch of the 4 1/2-furlong test, winning by 2 1/2 lengths in a final time of :52.13 for trainer Carla Morgan.
Bred in Maryland by Lady Olivia at North Cliff, which also campaigns the filly, Lady George is also the first winner for her dam, Lady Seagirl. In her debut, Lady George finished fifth in a Laurel Park maiden special weight.
Call Me George, who stands at Indian Creek Thoroughbred Farm in Louisiana for a 2019 fee of $1,000, was retired to stud with a record of 6-3-6 from 26 starts and earnings of $444,121.
After racing at the claiming level, his most notable races came in the later part of his 4-year-old year and carried into his 5-year-old season. After third-place finishes in the Homecoming Classic Stakes at Churchill Downs and the Hawthorne Gold Cup Handicap (G2) at Hawthorne in 2014, Call Me George won the 2015 New Orleans Handicap (G2) by a half-length at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.
