Description:
Willis Horton's newly minted champion Take Charge Brandi breezed five furlongs Jan. 18 at Oaklawn Park in preparation for her 3-year-old debut in the $100,000 Martha Washington Stakes Jan. 31.

The daughter of Giant's Causeway   was timed in 1:01 2/5 just after the track opened for training Sunday morning. The move ranked fourth of 30 at the distance.

Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas said he watched the workout from his barn office and was "very happy" with what he saw.

Sunday's work was Take Charge Brandi's second recorded at Oaklawn, following a half-mile move in :51 Jan. 12.

Take Charge Brandi closed her 2014 campaign with three consecutive victories, including the 14 Hands Winery Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) Nov. 1 at Santa Anita Park and the Starlet Stakes (gr. I) Dec. 13 at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Victor Espinoza rode Take Charge Brandi in both of those races, but Lukas said he may not be available for the Martha Washington because of possible scheduling conflicts that day in California, where the jockey is based. Corey Lanerie rode Take Charge Brandi in her first four career starts. The filly was ridden by Luis Saez and Paco Lopez in her two other starts last year.

Lopez guided Take Charge Brandi to victory in the Delta Princess (gr. III) Nov. 22 at Delta Downs Racetrack and Casino in Louisiana.
