Last year's Canadian champion 2-year-old filly Bold Script, who is being considered for this year's Queen's Plate Stakes against males, will try for her first graded stakes win in the $125,000 Selene Stakes (G3) May 18 at Woodbine.
Chiefswood Stable homebred Bold Script opened her 3-year-old season with a fifth-place finish on the dirt in the Davona Dale Stakes (G2) March 2 at Gulfstream Park. For the Selene, a 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-old fillies, the daughter of Speightstown will return to the synthetic surface at Woodbine where she drew off to a 7 1/2-length score in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes last fall.
Last year Bold Script also earned a grade 1 placing when she finished third in the Natalma Stakes on the turf at Woodbine. Trained by Stuart Simon, Bold Script drew post four in Saturday's expected field of five. Simon said she trained well on dirt but didn't get a good trip in the Davona Dale.
"She's been just a dream filly to train. These are the kind that you get up early in the morning for and she just does everything right, she always has," Simon said last fall. "She trains over every surface well. I just can't say enough about her, she's just a pleasure to have."
Starting from the rail Saturday will be Live Oak Plantation's Souper Charlotte, an undefeated daughter of Warrior's Reward who will be making her 3-year-old debut for trainer Mark Casse. Last year Souper Charlotte won her maiden debut at Woodbine in October and followed with a narrow score in the Glorious Song Stakes in November.
