Selcourt sets up for her first win of 2019, while Danuska's My Girl will attempt to extend her win streak when the two speedsters meet in the $100,000 Desert Stormer Stakes (G3) May 19 at Santa Anita Park.
After finishing fourth in the Beholder Mile Stakes (G1), Medallion Racing and Keith Abrahams' Selcourt will shorten up and get some class relief in the six-furlong Desert Stormer, which has attracted an expected field of five fillies and mares. A 5-year-old Tiz Wonderful mare, Selcourt has won both her previous starts at six furlongs—including last year's Las Flores Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita.
While Selcourt looks for her first win of the season in her fourth start of the year Sunday, Bad Boy Racing's Danuska's My Girl brings in a three-race win streak dating back to Nov. 22. The 5-year-old Shackleford mare enters off a clear victory in this year's Las Flores April 7.
Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Danuska's My Girl has been first or second at first call in her past nine starts, while Selcourt, who is trained by John Sadler, has either led or been within a neck of the lead at first call in all 10 of her starts.
Should that anticipated early duel prove too taxing for both, the field's other three runners could take advantage. Sadler also sends out Hronis Racing's Yuvetsi, a grade 3 winner who finished third in this race last year. The field also includes stakes-placed Smiling Tigress and two-time stakes winner Show It N Moe It.
