Lane's End's freshman sire Mr Speaker was represented by his first winner May 12 when his daughter Elegancia trounced five challengers by six lengths in a five-furlong maiden special weight at Hipodromo Camarero in Puerto Rico.
The bay filly out of stakes winner Jazz Jam (by Pivotal) was making her first start for owner Charles Cuprill and trainer Carlos Navarro. Elegancia stalked the pace early, following the leaders in modest opening fractions of :23.50 and :47.54. Jockey Benjamin Lopez let her go through the turn and she quickly took command, pulling away from the field without any pressure and stopping the timer in 1:00.66.
Cuprill bought Elegancia, who was bred in Kentucky by St. Elias Stables, for $6,000 at the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale from the Trackside Farm consignment.
Jazz Jam is out of the English group 3 winner Applaud (by Rahy), who is a half sister to English stakes winner Sauterne and group 3-placed winner Glam Rock. The mare has produced two winners from three to race and has a yearling by Liam's Map .
