Skywire wins the Wando Stakes over Global Access at Woodbine

Live Oak Plantation homebred Global Access will get another chance to take on Gary Barber's and Lou Tucci's Skywire in the $125,000 Marine Stakes (G3) for 3-year-olds going 1 1/16 miles on Woodbine's all-weather track May 25.

The Mark Casse-trained Skywire has won three of four lifetime starts, including the April 28 Wando Stakes in which Global Access finished 2 1/2-lengths back in second. Skywire's only loss came in his graded stakes debut—the March 9 Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3) in which the Afleet Alex  colt finished eighth at Turfway Park. 

On Saturday, Eurica Rosa Da Silva will ride Skywire from post 2.

Casse also has maiden winner Hoffa's Union in the Marine. The Union Rags  gelding contested the Wood Memorial Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets (G2) but finished seventh behind the winner, Tacitus.

Trained by Michael Trombetta, Global Access has two wins from seven lifetime starts, including the March 31 DRF Bets Sophomore Turf Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs one start prior to the Wando Stakes. The Florida-bred Giant's Causeway colt also finished third in the March 9 Columbia Stakes at Tampa Bay as well as the Display Stakes in December at Woodbine.

Patrick Husbands has the mount from the rail.

Trainer Dale Romans has Jeff Ruby Steaks fifth-place finisher Dabo, who will race at Woodbine for the first time. The Temple City  gelding has raced on both turf and dirt, but earned his second win on the Arlington International Race Course synthetic surface since winning his maiden on debut over the same track.

Lyrical Note rounds out the five-horse field for trainer Sid Attard. The Currency Swap colt has raced three times at Tampa Bay, earning two seconds and a maiden-claiming level win.
