Shadwell Launches New Breeding Scholarship Program

Shadwell has announced the launch of a new educational scholarship program that will promote employment and careers in the Thoroughbred breeding industry and run in conjunction with Writtle University College in Essex.

According to a May 29 release, the scholarships offer an entry point into the stud sector, combined with the chance to work with future and current stars of racing.

Shadwell will cover the cost of the tuition and accommodation fees for up to four students during their one-year period of study at WUC. Recipients will be studying WUC's recently validated, one-year Certificate of Higher Education in Thoroughbred Stud Operations. The course incorporates a significant period of work experience based on a partner stud.

After graduation, scholarship students will complete one further year at Shadwell as a part of their team of highly qualified and enthusiastic staff. As well as stud exposure, this amazing opportunity will offer an exceptional grounding in the production of top-class racehorses, including six months in their breaking, pre-training, and rehabilitation center.

To apply for the Shadwell scholarship, candidates must send an expression of interest to TBSO@writtle.ac.uk. Shadwell Stud and WUC are looking forward to identifying entrants who will make the most of new experiences in a fast-paced, fulfilling sector. Students who have already applied to WUC for 2019 entry on this course are welcome to put themselves forward.

Assessment will be based upon an application letter, a CV, and an interview. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate equine experience and hold a minimum of 48 UCAS Tariff Points. Scholarship applications will close by July 12, 2019.

Applications for September 2019 entry to WUC's Certificate of Higher Education in Thoroughbred Stud Operations must be submitted via UCAS.
